NAD+ precursor and cellular energy research
The evidence base for nicotinamide riboside
Nicotinamide riboside (NR) is an alternative form of vitamin B3 and a highly efficient precursor to nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD+). Found naturally in trace amounts in milk, NR utilizes the nicotinamide riboside kinase (NRK) pathway to synthesize NAD+, bypassing certain rate-limiting steps typical of other precursors. This research corpus evaluates the evidence regarding NR's efficacy in replenishing systemic NAD+ pools, supporting mitochondrial biogenesis, and addressing age-associated metabolic decline.
