Study snapshot

DesignSecondary or companion analysis of an existing human intervention
ModelHuman participants
Sample25 CKD participants; cellular bioenergetics subset of 14
InterventionNR 1000 mg/day, CoQ10 1200 mg/day or placebo in separate periods
Duration6 weeks per treatment period
EndpointsInflammatory biomarkers; isoprostanes; immune-cell bioenergetics

What the study showed, in plain terms

This companion report found selected oxidative-stress and immune-cell bioenergetic changes after NR. Inflammatory effects were mixed rather than uniformly anti-inflammatory.

Key findings

NR increased IL-2; selected five-series isoprostanes decreased after adjustment.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Same trial cohort as PMID 37159264. Numerous exploratory comparisons; several nominal findings did not survive multiplicity adjustment.
