Study snapshot

DesignRandomized placebo-controlled human trial
ModelHuman participants
Sample40 patients with stable COPD
InterventionNR 2000 mg/day versus placebo
Duration6 weeks; follow-up 12 weeks after treatment
EndpointsSputum IL-8; blood NAD+; exploratory airway pathways

What the study showed, in plain terms

NR reduced the primary sputum IL-8 measure and increased whole-blood NAD+ in this small COPD trial.

Key findings

The estimated IL-8 treatment difference at six weeks was −52.6%.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Inflammatory and exploratory epigenetic findings do not establish fewer exacerbations, better lung function or reduced mortality.
