What the study showed, in plain terms

This publication examines carotid artery elasticity, pulse pressure, intima-media thickness. Study population or evidence base: 181 women randomized; vascular analysis included 108 participants. Intervention or exposure: Minerals plus vitamin D with or without vitamin K1, compared with placebo.

Key findings

Arterial elastic properties were better preserved in the group receiving vitamin K1 with minerals and vitamin D. Intima-media thickness did not significantly differ.

What this study can and cannot tell us

This study used K1, not K2. Attrition and the smaller analyzed sample limit interpretation, and vascular elasticity is not a clinical cardiovascular-event outcome.
