What the study showed, in plain terms

This publication examines glucose, hba1c, insulin, homa-ir. Study population or evidence base: 22 glucose, 14 HbA1c, 12 insulin and 10 HOMA-IR treatment-arm analyses. Intervention or exposure: Oral magnesium supplementation; formulations and doses varied.

Key findings

Magnesium improved pooled HOMA-IR but not overall glucose, HbA1c or insulin. Longer-duration subgroups showed more favorable glucose and insulin-resistance findings.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Different numbers of trial arms contributed to each outcome. Subgroup duration findings and heterogeneous populations limit simple dosing conclusions.
