What the study showed, in plain terms

This publication examines carboxylated and undercarboxylated osteocalcin. Study population or evidence base: 60 women in a dose-finding trial and 120 adults in a second randomized trial. Intervention or exposure: MK-7 0–200 μg/day in study 1; 100 μg/day or placebo in study 2.

Key findings

MK-7 showed a dose-related improvement in osteocalcin carboxylation; daily doses of 100 μg or more produced significant effects in these studies.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Two short biomarker trials are reported in one paper. The findings do not establish effects on bone density, fractures or cardiovascular events.
