Study snapshot

DesignRandomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled parallel-group trial followed by a 4-week washout
ModelHealthy women aged 35–55 years
Sample83 randomized; 77 participants completed/formed the reported study cohort
InterventionBioactive collagen peptides 5,000 mg/day versus placebo for 12 weeks, followed by 4 weeks without supplementation.
Duration12-week intervention plus 4-week washout
EndpointsSkin hydration; Transepidermal water loss; Skin elasticity/firmness; Dermal thickness; Dermal density; Epidermal thickness; Persistence after washout

What the study showed, in plain terms

This double-blind trial tested 5 g/day of bioactive collagen peptides for 12 weeks, then followed participants for four weeks after stopping. Several hydration, barrier and dermal-structure measures favored collagen and some improvements persisted, but three authors worked for the collagen company.

Key findings

The collagen group showed statistically significant improvements versus placebo in dermal density, hydration and transepidermal water loss after 12 weeks, with reported persistence during the washout period. Dermal thickness also increased; epidermal measures did not show the same pattern.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Relatively small women-only sample; three authors were employees of the product company; the accessible paper record did not provide an explicit funding statement; formulation-specific results should not be generalized to all collagen powders; not a trial of DoNotAge's finished product.
