Study snapshot

DesignRandomized double-blind four-treatment crossover pharmacokinetic pilot
ModelHealthy young nonsmokers; mean age 25.2 years
Sample6 healthy volunteers (3 women, 3 men)
Intervention10 g single doses of fish, porcine and bovine collagen hydrolysates (bovine ~2,000 Da and ~5,000 Da)
DurationSingle-dose pharmacokinetic periods, plasma sampling over 6 hours
EndpointsTotal and free plasma hydroxyproline; Pro-Hyp and Hyp-Gly plasma uptake; Source/molecular-weight differences

What the study showed, in plain terms

All four collagen sources raised circulating hydroxyproline and hydroxyproline-containing peptides; free hydroxyproline uptake was similar, although selected metabolite exposures varied modestly among sources and peptide sizes.

Key findings

Total plasma hydroxyproline exposure exceeded free hydroxyproline by 36–47%, indicating circulating peptide-bound hydroxyproline. Bovine low-MW total exposure 1.2-fold higher than bovine high-MW in this six-person pilot.

What this study can and cannot tell us

N=6, only acute exposure and manufacturer-supplied hydrolysates, no functional clinical outcome or direct test of DoNotAge powder; absorption is not equivalent to clinical effectiveness.
