What the study showed, in plain terms

This publication examines sleep quality, magnesium status, c-reactive protein. Study population or evidence base: 100 adults over 51 randomized; 96 completed. Intervention or exposure: 320 mg/day elemental magnesium as citrate or placebo.

Key findings

Sleep scores improved in both groups. Magnesium improved selected status and inflammation measures in participants with low magnesium or elevated CRP at baseline.

What this study can and cannot tell us

No clear magnesium-specific sleep benefit was demonstrated. Subgroup biomarker changes should not be presented as proof of insomnia treatment.
