What the study showed, in plain terms

This study examined whether habitual dietary intake of specific polyphenols, including apigenin, was associated with sleep quality in 1,936 Italian adults.

Key findings

Dietary apigenin intake was among the individual flavonoids associated with sleep-quality measures. Associations were stronger for several polyphenols in normal-weight participants, while the overweight/obese subgroup did not show associations for polyphenol classes. The study supports an observational signal, not proof that apigenin supplementation improves sleep.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Dietary exposure was estimated from food-frequency questionnaires and databases rather than assigned or directly measured. The cross-sectional design cannot prove causality, residual confounding is possible, and dietary apigenin is not equivalent to an isolated apigenin supplement.
