What the study showed, in plain terms

This double-blind trial tested 100 mg/day and 200 mg/day of 300 kDa oral hyaluronic acid against placebo in 129 women with different ages and skin types.

Hydration improved during weeks 2–8 across several subgroups, with skin-tone changes reported at weeks 4–8 and increased epidermal thickness at 12 weeks.

The dose-ranging design is useful for the 100–200 mg range, although several reported analyses compare follow-up with baseline rather than consistently reporting direct placebo-group contrasts.

Key findings

  • 100 mg/day and 200 mg/day were tested using 300 kDa HA.
  • Skin hydration improved in multiple age and skin-type subgroups during follow-up.
  • Skin tone and epidermal thickness also showed favorable changes at selected time points.

What this study can and cannot tell us

  • All participants were female and recruited in one Chinese center.
  • Some analyses emphasize within-group change rather than clear between-group placebo comparisons.
  • Three authors were affiliated with an HA manufacturer.
