Study snapshot

DesignUpdated randomized-effects, multilevel and leave-one-out meta-analysis; searched through November 2025
ModelHealthy adults in oral-collagen randomized trials
Sample35 RCTs; 2,534 participants
InterventionMixed hydrolysed collagen peptide products vs placebo
DurationVaried; elasticity/barrier signal appeared time-dependent
EndpointsSkin hydration; Skin elasticity; Transepidermal water loss; Wrinkles and roughness; Dermal density; Outlier sensitivity

What the study showed, in plain terms

Thirty-five trials suggest improvements in measured hydration, elasticity and barrier function. Apparent wrinkle, roughness and dermal-density benefits did not survive rigorous outlier and multilevel sensitivity analyses.

Key findings

Hydration SMD 0.44 (95% CI 0.15–0.73), elasticity SMD 0.62 (0.15–1.10), transepidermal water loss SMD −0.39 (−0.62 to −0.16); wrinkle/roughness/density effects were outlier-driven.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Important heterogeneity and overlap with earlier syntheses. Several citations in the publisher bibliography show apparent incomplete DOI placeholders and warrant manual bibliographic QC before relying on every included-trial detail. Not DoNotAge-specific.
