What the study showed, in plain terms

Eighty-five healthy women were randomized to 5 g/day collagen peptides or maltodextrin for 84 days while using standardized skincare. Some instrumental skin measures favored collagen, but the trial was funded by Rousselot and most authors worked for the manufacturer.

Key findings

At day 84, dermis density and skin moisture were reported as significantly better in the collagen group versus placebo. Several other measures improved earlier within the collagen group, although within-group timing differences are less informative than direct between-group comparisons.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Manufacturer-funded with four of five authors employed by Rousselot; limited to women aged 43–65 in an East Asian population; a standardized facial cream was used in both arms; multiple outcomes increase the importance of prespecified analyses and multiplicity control.
