Study snapshot

DesignRandomized controlled pilot study
ModelAdults with knee OA and joint effusion undergoing arthrocentesis
Samplen=30
InterventionOral preparation with HA 120 mg, chondroitin sulfate 240 mg and hydrolyzed keratin 300 mg daily versus arthrocentesis-only control
Duration4 weeks
EndpointsWOMAC; Lequesne Index; VAS pain; Synovial-fluid cytokines

What the study showed, in plain terms

The combination-supplement group improved WOMAC, Lequesne and pain scores and showed changes in several synovial-fluid cytokines, whereas the control group did not. The sample was tiny and the product contained several active joint ingredients, so it does not isolate HA.
