DesignIn vitro and ex vivo preclinical study
ModelRat thyroid cells, BRAFV600E-expressing thyroid cells and primary mouse thyroid tumor cells
Sample
InterventionApigenin combined with Akt inhibition under TSH stimulation
Duration24-hour experimental treatments
EndpointsRadioactive iodide uptake; Iodide influx and efflux; NIS-related signaling; p38 MAPK dependence

What the study showed, in plain terms

This study examined whether apigenin could increase radioiodide uptake in thyroid cells when Akt signaling was already inhibited.

Key findings

Apigenin alone had little effect, but with Akt inhibition it further increased TSH-stimulated iodide influx; the effect required p38 MAPK activity.

What this study can and cannot tell us

The work is preclinical and involves a drug-combination context. It does not show that an apigenin supplement improves radioiodine therapy in patients.
