Study snapshot

DesignRandomized placebo-controlled 14-week high-load knee-extensor training study
ModelMen training at 70–85% 1RM three days a week
Sample50 healthy moderately active men
Intervention5 g/day specific collagen peptides vs matched placebo plus standardized training
Duration14 weeks
EndpointsPatellar tendon cross-sectional area; Tendon stiffness; Quadriceps strength; Muscle cross-sectional area

What the study showed, in plain terms

Five grams of a specific collagen peptide preparation enhanced selected patellar-tendon CSA responses to exercise; tendon stiffness and strength improved with training but did not differ between collagen and placebo.

Key findings

Additional CSA increases at 60% and 70% tendon length; no additional stiffness or strength effect.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Selected branded peptide product, men only and exercise co-intervention; do not generalize low-dose effect to every collagen formulation.
