What the study showed, in plain terms

This small safety-oriented trial directly examined the anticoagulant question. Oral 3 g/day fucoidan for 12 days produced some laboratory changes but the investigators concluded that oral anticoagulant activity was not obvious, likely because absorption was low. Strong in-vitro anticoagulant activity should therefore not be translated directly into the claim that oral fucoidan acts like a prescription anticoagulant.

Key findings

Some coagulation laboratory values changed during oral dosing.

The authors judged the in-vivo oral anticoagulant effect not obvious.

Fucoidan showed strong anticoagulant activity in vitro.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Very small sample and short duration.

Older formulation with limited characterization relative to modern extracts.

Does not rule out interactions or bleeding risk in anticoagulated patients.

Not a SIRT6 study.
