Study snapshot

DesignRandomized controlled rehabilitation study
ModelAdults with osteoarthritis-related chronic low back pain
Samplen=60
InterventionMcKenzie kinesitherapy alone versus same rehabilitation plus daily collagen peptides with vitamin C 80 mg, sodium hyaluronate 50 mg (about 46 mg HA), manganese 1 mg and copper 0.5 mg
Duration3 weeks treatment with follow-up 6 weeks later
EndpointsVAS pain; Oswestry Disability Index; SF-12 physical and mental components

What the study showed, in plain terms

Both rehabilitation groups improved, but the group receiving the multi-ingredient oral supplement improved more and maintained several gains at follow-up. HA was only one component of a collagen/vitamin/mineral formula, so this study cannot support HA-specific low-back-pain claims.
