What the study showed, in plain terms

This publication examines hs-crp, il-6, il-10, tnf-α. Study population or evidence base: 1,054 participants; 2,713 blood samples. Intervention or exposure: Vitamin D3 2,000 IU/day and/or omega-3 1 g/day.

Key findings

Vitamin D reduced hs-CRP at year two, but the effect was not significant at year four. Other measured inflammatory markers were not significantly improved.

What this study can and cannot tell us

A biomarker substudy with time-dependent findings. It does not demonstrate sustained generalized anti-inflammatory effects or clinical disease prevention.
