What the study showed, in plain terms

This review is useful for understanding why apigenin exposure can vary. It covers absorption, extensive conjugation and enterohepatic handling, chemical stability, food-processing effects and multiple strategies designed to improve delivery. It does not show that every enhanced-delivery formulation is clinically superior.

Key findings

Apigenin has poor water solubility and undergoes substantial intestinal and hepatic metabolism, including glucuronidation and sulfation. Heat, metals and processing can alter stability. Emulsions, nanostructured lipid carriers, hydrogels and liposomes can improve experimental stability or bioavailability, but human validation remains limited.

What this study can and cannot tell us

The review combines diverse experimental systems, formulations and endpoints. Many delivery claims derive from in vitro or animal work, and the paper itself notes that more experimental and translational research is needed before broad commercialization or human efficacy conclusions.
