Study snapshot

DesignSystematic review and random-effects meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
ModelAdults with clinical hypertension
Sample11 trials; 349 patients
InterventionNitrate-rich beetroot juice versus placebo, water, or no intervention
DurationVaried across trials
EndpointsClinic systolic and diastolic blood pressure; 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure

What the study showed, in plain terms

Beetroot juice produced a pooled reduction in clinic systolic blood pressure in people with hypertension, but 24-hour readings and diastolic blood pressure did not show clear benefit.

Key findings

Clinic systolic BP mean difference −5.31 mmHg (95% CI −7.46 to −3.16); no significant pooled effect on clinic diastolic or 24-hour blood pressure.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Low GRADE certainty, moderate-to-high heterogeneity, beetroot JUICE rather than standardized powder. Cannot assume the same effect for Nitralis.
