What the study showed, in plain terms

This review looked across resveratrol's human clinical trials for cancer, neurological disorders, heart disease, diabetes, fatty liver disease, and obesity. It found resveratrol was generally well tolerated and improved some disease markers in neurological, cardiovascular, and diabetes trials, but had inconsistent or even unfavourable effects in some cancer and fatty-liver trials — with poor bioavailability a recurring problem throughout.

Key findings

Across the reviewed clinical trials, resveratrol was well tolerated and beneficially influenced disease biomarkers in neurological disorders, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes trials. However, effects in certain cancers and in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease were ambiguous or sometimes unfavourable. Poor bioavailability was identified as the major recurring obstacle across the clinical trial literature.

What this study can and cannot tell us

A narrative review, not a systematic review or meta-analysis with a defined search strategy or quality scoring — its summary judgements about which disease areas show benefit should be treated as a starting point, not a substitute for reading the individual trials.
