Study snapshot

DesignCross-sectional study of serum SIRT6 and frailty-phenotype components.
ModelCommunity-dwelling and outpatient adults aged 65 years or older in Wuhan, China.
Sample540 participants.
InterventionNo intervention.
DurationCross-sectional.
EndpointsSerum SIRT6; frailty status; slowness; weakness; exhaustion; ROC discrimination

What the study showed, in plain terms

Among 540 adults aged 65 or older, lower serum SIRT6 was associated with frailty and several frailty components including slowness, weakness and exhaustion.

Key findings

Serum SIRT6 was lower in several frailty-component groups, and multivariable analysis found an independent association between lower SIRT6 and frailty.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Cross-sectional design prevents causal inference. The ELISA biomarker is not a treatment-selection tool, and no SIRT6 activator was tested.
