Study snapshot

DesignCross-sectional age-stratified human biomarker study with serum ELISA and vascular tissue analyses.
ModelHealthy adults aged 20-30, 45-55 and at least 70 years.
Sample155 participants.
InterventionNo intervention; age-group comparison.
DurationCross-sectional.
EndpointsSerum SIRT6; serum telomerase; vascular SIRT6/hTERT expression; correlation with age

What the study showed, in plain terms

In 155 healthy adults, serum SIRT6 and telomerase levels were lower at older ages. Serum SIRT6 correlated negatively with age and positively with telomerase.

Key findings

Serum SIRT6 correlated negatively with age (r=-0.5830) and positively with telomerase (r=0.5743) in this cross-sectional sample.

What this study can and cannot tell us

The study is cross-sectional, cannot establish causation, and serum SIRT6 is not yet a validated clinical aging biomarker or treatment target.
