What the study showed, in plain terms

Small 30-day randomized study of 1,800 mg/day NAC in obstructive sleep apnea.

Key findings

Within the NAC group, several polysomnographic measures and daytime sleepiness improved over 30 days; the study was too small to establish NAC as an alternative to CPAP.

What this study can and cannot tell us

Only 20 participants, short duration, old single-center study and limited between-group reporting; not evidence for insomnia or general sleep enhancement.
