Study snapshot

DesignPhase 2 pilot randomized placebo-controlled trial.
ModelAdults aged 50 years and older with peripheral artery disease and mobility impairment.
SampleEstimated enrollment: 34 participants.
InterventionFisetin approximately 20 mg/kg once daily for 2 consecutive days every 14 days, rounded to available capsule strength, versus matched placebo.
DurationRepeated short-course dosing over approximately four months.
Endpoints6-minute walk distance; Senescence-related markers in adipose tissue, skeletal muscle and blood; Inflammatory markers; Safety and tolerability

What the study showed, in plain terms

FIRST tests whether intermittent fisetin can improve walking performance and alter senescence-related biology in people with peripheral artery disease. Participants receive short two-day courses every two weeks.

The trial is recruiting and has no posted efficacy results. It is important because it directly links a mobility endpoint with tissue and blood senescence markers, but it does not yet show that fisetin improves PAD or walking capacity.

Key findings

  • Estimated enrollment is 34 participants aged 50 years or older with PAD.
  • The intervention uses repeated two-day fisetin courses approximately every two weeks.
  • The trial measures both 6-minute walk performance and senescence/inflammation biomarkers.

What this study can and cannot tell us

  • No results are posted yet.
  • Small pilot design limits precision.
  • PAD-specific findings may not generalize to healthy aging or other vascular conditions.
